VWCR: High-Precision Vibrating Wire Crack Sensor 12.5–300 mm

The VWCR is a vibrating-wire crackmeter designed for precise, long-term monitoring of crack or joint movements in critical structures. Its operating principle is based on a wire tensioned by a stainless steel spring, whose resonant frequency varies with the measured displacements. Waterproof and robust, it features a thermistor to compensate for thermal effects and an internal universal joint to accommodate minor misalignments. This sensor is particularly suited to harsh environments (humidity, thermal fluctuations) where long-term stability is required, such as in dams, bridges, or industrial buildings.

Among its key advantages, the VWCR offers a resolution of 0.025% FS and accuracy of ±0.1% FS, with extended measurement ranges (from 12.5 mm to 300 mm). Its 4-core shielded cable eliminates length-related interference, ensuring reliable readings even over long distances. Installation is simplified thanks to its compact diameter (12 mm for the sensor, 25 mm for the coil) and compatibility with both manual and automated reading systems (dataloggers, IoT).

This sensor is ideal for structural monitoring of dams, bridges, pipelines, and buildings, where it enables real-time detection of crack evolution—whether they are opening or closing. Civil engineers, geotechnical specialists, and maintenance managers use it to assess structural integrity, anticipate failure risks, or validate reinforcement work. Its passive operation (no external power required) makes it perfect for remote sites or embedded applications.

The VWCR is available in eight standard measurement ranges (up to 300 mm) and can be paired with our data acquisition units (compatible with 4-20 mA, Modbus, etc.). Mounting accessories (flanges, stainless steel brackets) and on-site calibration services are offered for seamless integration. An extended warranty and dedicated technical support accompany its deployment, with an optional training module for data interpretation.
