Measuring the mechanical efficiency of a wind turbine

Customer request

The customer wanted to improve the performance of a wind turbine by optimising the blade pitch using torque measurement.

PM Instrumentation Solution

Installation of a high precision DRVL torque meter between the wind turbine propeller and the electrical generator using custom couplings.

Results

The customer was able to use the torque data to determine the optimum blade pitch. As a result, the wind turbine generates more power with less stress on the bearings.
