Overview
The SHAKE SS300 is an intelligent seismic switch designed for earthquake detection and automatic equipment shutdown.
Its triaxial MEMS accelerometer measures motion along the X, Y and Z axes. The system analyses in particular the PGA, PGV and seismic intensity to determine whether a safety action should be triggered.
Three independent relays allow direct control of a machine stop, a gas valve, a pipeline, an alarm or any other safety function.
RS-485 Modbus RTU communication also allows the SS300 to be integrated into a PLC or an existing control architecture.
Seismic detection
The SHAKE SS300 can trigger its relays based on several criteria:
- PGA – Peak Ground Acceleration
- PGV – Peak Ground Velocity
- STA/LTA
- seismic intensity
Several intensity scales are available, including MMI, JMA, KMA, GBT and CWB.
The built-in filtering helps limit the influence of artificial vibrations during detection.
Relays and safety shutdown
The SS300 features 3 isolated mechanical relays, independently configurable.
They can, among other things, control:
- a machine stop
- valve closure
- equipment shutdown
- a local alarm
- a PLC input
- an emergency procedure
The relays can be monitored, tested or reset via Modbus RTU.
Applications
The SHAKE SS300 is particularly suitable for:
- elevator safety shutdown
- automatic gas valve closure
- pipeline protection
- production line shutdown
- safety shutdown of industrial equipment
- protection of sensitive installations
- triggering of emergency procedures
FAQ
-
What is a seismic switch used for?
It detects a seismic event and can automatically trigger a safety action when the configured thresholds are exceeded. -
Can the SHAKE SS300 directly stop a machine?
Yes. It features 3 independent relays that can be integrated into a control or safety chain. -
Which parameters can trigger the relays?
The relays can be configured based on the PGA, the PGV or various seismic intensity scales. -
Can it be integrated into a PLC?
Yes. RS-485 Modbus RTU communication allows it to be integrated into a PLC or an industrial control system.
